Lid Check

Without question, the single most important piece of equipment a rider straps on is his/her helmet. You can go to the track and if you forgot your kneepads or your chest protector you may still ride. I have seen guys in all their gear riding with tennis shoes before. The one thing you'll never see is a rider without a helmet. When it is time to make a choice as to which helmet you choose, you can go cheap, kind of cheap but looks cool, fairly solid and has some cool graphics, or throw down some serious cash and get the top of the line which usually always look good.

What do the pros wear? Usually whatever they get for free or get paid to wear. Fortunately the companies will want to promote their best models, so that is what they get. A pro's helmet is also the one piece of equipment that they can personalize if they are on a team that requires you to wear team colors or gear, such as Yamaha. There are some amazing artists out there doing crazy things to helmets nowadays, with Troy Lee probably being the most famous. Unlike the pros, we normal people have to pay to have our lids pimped out, and that can cost over $1000.00 for the really good stuff. I guess if you have the cash to do it, why not? Personally, I don't have the cash so a good looking helmet with a few choice stickers is all I need. Check out some of the shots of riders lids that I took at A1 and A2 and tell us what you think. If you have cool helmet and want to show it off, post up a photo in your photos section of your profile. If we see one that is especially worthy, we will post if up on the home page for everybody to see!

Oh yeah, in case you were wondering what I wear, I chose the EVS TACT. It fits me perfect, looks good, and if comes from a company that leads the way in safety products, I trust my head to be safe in it.
