In the European football betting match, Nacho Novo says, the worst night of his career, today branded Rangers humiliation at the hands of Unirea.

Almost six years ago, the Spaniard has been involved in many European highs since arriving at Ibrox - but last night's 4-1 thumping from the Champions League minnows left him shell-shocked.

Rangers now have just one point from three Group G games after the embarrassing collapse which saw their sports betting fans stream away early from Ibrox in disgust.

They head for Romania in a fortnight knowing only a victory will give them any semblance of hope in the group, but already it is looking like a third-place Europa League fight between themselves and Stuttgart who lost at home to runaway leaders Sevilla.

Novo was one of few players to emerge afterwards and sift through the ashes. And he conceded: "Yes, I would say that is the worst night of my career. It was awful.

"It was a terrible result. I feel for the fans because we let them down. They are always with us, but last night was just not good enough.

"To be honest we haven't played at all well this season so far, apart from some periods in a few games. We need to go away, find out the problems and sort them out."

Steven Davis missed a penalty just before half-time with the game locked at 1-1. But Novo has told the Northern Ireland international not to be too hard on him.

"We are in it as a team and we did not lose the game because of one player," he said.

"It was obviously disappointing that we missed the penalty, but it is what can happen to anyone in a game.

"Afterwards no-one really spoke in the dressing room because I think we all know that it was an awful result for us.

"It is very disappointing that we have lost two of our home games because the games are Ibrox were where we wanted to pick up points."

With Sevilla beating Stuttgart to effectively cement their passage into the last 16 of the tournament as group winners, Romanian minnows Unirea have now emerged as shock favorites to finish second.

But Novo has told Rangers that they need to summon their never-say-die attitude for the remaining three group games.

"If we went to Romania and won then we would be back in it," he said.

"It is going to be very difficult because you could see that they are a very good side. I don't know what happened to us last night.

"There are still three games for us to play and we can't think that it is over for us. We have to be strong and try to fight until the final match.

"We got off to a great start when we got a goal right at the very start of the game, but after that I just don't know where it went wrong. But we have to lift ourselves and get on with it.

"We still have Stuttgart at home and you never know. That could still be a big night for us.

"We can't say yet what will happen and we can't give up. You never know what can happen in football.

"We have to get this football betting game out of the way and look to the next one against Hibs on Saturday as soon as possible."
